Governor General Gold Medal - Spring
Purpose: The Governor General’s Gold Medal competition recognizes excellence and original quality in graduate student research. In particular, components of the graduate program to be considered by the selection committee include the thesis, coursework, publications and presentations.
Eligibility: Students who will be attending convocation with a PhD in the fall of 2026
Nominations are limited to one per department/program
Selection Criteria: Impact and Productivity and EE letter, Sup letter, DH response
Supplemental Questions: Nominees are responsible for answering the Supplemental Questions and for providing the name and email address of the nominator. The nominator (e.g., graduate administrator, department head, supervisor(s), or graduate chair) must gather and submit all required documents. The nominator can be anyone associated with the program (e.g., graduate administrator, department head, etc.).
The nominator is required to provide the following documents:
- A letter from the department head detailing the rationale for the nomination.
- A letter from the nominee’s supervisor.
- A letter from the External Examiner that addresses the topics outlined in the External Examiner Nomination Letter Guidelines.
- Award
- A Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal, along with a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General
