Governor General Gold Medal - Spring

The Governor General Gold Medal national competition recognizes excellence and original quality in graduate student research. In particular, components of the graduate program to be considered by the selection committee include the thesis, coursework, publications and presentations.
Students who will convocate with a PhD in the spring of 2026 are eligible to be nominated.
Nominations are limited to one per department/program.

The student (nominee) must initiate the nomination using this system. The nominee will be responsible for answering the Supplemental Questions found at the bottom of this page. The nominee will invite the nominator (Department Head) and their supervisor to complete their nomination section.

The nominator will need to provide the following:
1) A letter giving a detailed rationale for the nomination.
2) A letter from the External Examiner that covers topics in the External Examiner Nomination Letter Guidelines.

The supervisor will be asked to upload a support letter.

Award
A Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal, along with a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General
