Canada Graduate Research Scholarship Doctoral (CGRS D)
Purpose:
The doctoral funding program has been renamed the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS D). The CGRS D is a federal program for scholarships awarded by the CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC granting agencies, providing research funding for high-calibre doctoral students in all academic disciplines

Applicants who are not Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or protected persons under must be enrolled in their doctoral program of study at the time of application.

Please note that institutions have their own internal deadlines. Applicants who are currently registered in a degree program at a Canadian institutional or were registered in a degree program within the calendar year of application, need to apply directly to a Canadian institution. USask’s internal deadline is Monday, September 28, 2026. Applications MUST be submitted in the appropriate agency’s application portal by the internal deadline. Any applications submitted after the internal deadline will not be considered. Applicants not registered at any time during the calendar year of application in a degree program at a Canadian institution or are registered at a foreign institution must apply directly to the appropriate agency.
The Honourary SIOS Doctoral Scholarship is available to graduate students holding CGRS D funding. Funding recipients will automatically be topped up each year they hold Tri-Agency funding by $7,500. This funding is made possible by the Government of Saskatchewan’s Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship program.
