Canada Graduate Research Scholarship Master's (CGRS M)

Purpose:
The CGRS M program aims to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate high potential to contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem. It supports the next generation of innovators in health, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, and humanities to empower them to contribute to Canada’s economy and prosperity.

The Tri-Agency scholarships are administered by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

Eligibility:

• To be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria as of the application deadline:

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person.

• Be enrolled in, or applying for full-time admission to, an eligible research-oriented graduate program at a Canadian institution with an allocation.

• The program must include a significant autonomous research component, such as a thesis or major research project. Course-only programs are typically ineligible.

• Have completed between 0 and 12 months of full-time studies in the program for which funding is requested.

• Must not have previously held a Master’s level scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.

Application Process:

• Students must use the Research Portal Login to complete and submit their application to up to three institutions. The application platform, Research Portal, will open in early September

• A completed application requires a Canadian Common CV Website and official transcripts.

Applications are reviewed by the host institutions based on three weighted categories:

• Academic excellence 50% will be evaluated based on transcripts, academic records, and previous scholarships or awards received.

• Research Potential is assessed at 30% and is evaluated based on research history, interest in discovery, the quality and feasibility of the proposed research, and critical thinking skills.

• Demonstrated personal characteristics and interpersonal skills, encompassing leadership, work experience, and volunteerism, are essential for clear communication of concepts and are valued at 20%.

The SIOS Doctoral Scholarship is available to graduate students holding CGRS D funding. Funding recipients will automatically be topped up each year they hold Tri-Agency funding by $6,000. This funding is made possible by the Government of Saskatchewan’s Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship program
